BY the WAYS ...

WARNINGS:
• A friend adores the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie, so I gave in and rented it from Netflix (They should pay me for the plug!). The movie stars Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore, so who would ever imagine that it was simply, as Mel Brooks would say, "schlock"? Sappy, vapid and flat. I would call it Thoroughly Muddled Millie.

• Never have there been two more pointless and badly acted and written movies with so many possibilities as Leap Year with Amy Adams and When in Rome with Kristen Bell. For heaven's sake, please do NOT waste your time on either. You will be very grouchy if you spend even $5 to rent either of these DVDs. Bleccch. (lc)

WINKS:
• If you have not seen one or both of the Ironman movies with Robert Downey Jr. because you think they are too comic-booky or for youngsters only, revise your thought processes. They are cool, high-tech, sci-fi action movies, yes. But RDJ and the villains, Jeff Bridges and Mickey Rourke, are riveting. Gwenneth Paltrow even acts a little, especially in the first flick. They are fun and well-acted and written. Worth a rent.

• If you are married or, especially divorced, and even better if you have children (which includes almost ALL of us, short of high-schoolers), you will appreciate and possibly ADORE It's Complicated with the naughty Alec Baldwin, the unbelievable Meryl Streep and the sincere-yet-puckish Steve Martin. I laughed so long and loudly that Joel closed the door between in to shut out my guffaws. Rent it! (lc)
